Privacy policy

Samuraize (“we”) is a summarization service run from samuraize.ai. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Short version: we keep the minimum needed to run the service, we don’t sell data, and you can delete everything yourself from Settings.

What we collect

• Account details - your name, email address and a hashed password, if you create an account, plus which version of the Terms you agreed to at sign-up and when.
• Content you summarize - the YouTube transcript, article text, PDF, ebook, slide deck or text you submit is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to produce the summary. If you’re signed in, the resulting summary and (for videos, articles and slide decks) the extracted text are saved to your library so you can reopen them. Uploaded files themselves are not stored.
• Usage counts - how many summaries you’ve run this month and today, to enforce plan limits. Visitors without an account are counted against a salted, monthly-rotating hash of their network address, which can’t be turned back into an IP address.
• Phone number - only if you choose to collect the free monthly Samurai Coins, or claim a promotional code. We send a verification code by SMS through Twilio and keep a one-way hash of the number plus its country code and last two digits (so you can recognise it in Settings). The number itself is never stored, so we cannot call or text you and cannot share it with anyone. It is used for one thing: making sure one person can’t collect the same free allowance on fifty accounts. We never send marketing messages, and you can ask us to delete the record at any time - you simply stop receiving the free monthly coins.
• Payment details - handled entirely by Stripe. We never see your card number; we store a Stripe customer id and your subscription status.
• Website analytics - for each page view we record the page address, the referring site your browser reports, any campaign tags in the link (utm_source and friends), your device type, browser and operating system, and the country, region and city that our hosting provider derives from the connection. We do not store your IP address: it is combined with your browser’s user agent, a secret key and today’s date into a one-way hash that changes every night and cannot be turned back into an address. That means we can count how many people visited on a given day, but we cannot follow anyone from one day to the next or recognise you across devices. If you are signed in, page views are linked to your account so we can see which features members use. This all runs on our own servers - there is no third-party analytics script, no cookie and no advertising tracker. Aggregate product events (for example “a PDF summary succeeded”) are also counted, and additionally sent to PostHog with a fresh random id per event if that integration is enabled. Vercel’s own cookieless page-view counter also runs on the site.

Cookies

The only cookie we set is a session cookie after you sign in, so the site knows it’s you. It is strictly necessary for login and is not used for tracking. Anonymous visitors get no cookies at all, and we never write to your browser’s local storage for analytics purposes - which is why our visitor counts are deliberately approximate rather than following you around.

Bot protection

Sign-up, sign-in and anonymous summaries are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which may process your IP address and browser characteristics to tell humans from bots, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Who we share data with

• Anthropic - the text or file you summarize, to generate the summary.
• TranscriptAPI.com - the YouTube URL you submit, to fetch its transcript.
• Google (YouTube Data API) - channel or video ids, to list a channel’s videos.
• Stripe - payments and subscriptions.
• Resend - transactional email (verification codes, password resets).
• Vercel and Neon - hosting and the database.

We do not sell personal data and do not share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

Your library stays until you delete individual summaries or your whole account. Usage counters are per month and per day. Individual page-view records are deleted after 90 days, leaving only daily totals with no visitor-level detail at all. Server logs are kept briefly for debugging. If you delete your account, everything tied to it is removed immediately and any subscription is cancelled.

Your rights

You can view, export (TXT / Markdown / PDF) and delete your summaries from your library, change your details in Settings, and delete your account there too - no need to ask us. For anything else (a copy of your data, corrections, or questions), email info@samuraize.ai. If you’re in the EU or UK you also have the right to complain to your data-protection authority.

Content you submit and other people’s rights

What you summarize is chosen by you, not by us, and the Terms of Service make you responsible for having the right to submit it. We record which version of the terms you accepted and when you accepted it, alongside your account. Anything you publish to the Bento Box is public under your nickname; if a rights holder tells us a published item infringes their work, we remove it and tell you, and we keep that correspondence for as long as the complaint is relevant.

Children

Samuraize isn’t directed at children under 13 and we don’t knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we’ll update the date above and, for signed-in users, mention it in the app.
