Copyright policy

Samuraize hosts summaries that members choose to publish, and stores material that members upload for their own use. We respect the rights of authors and creators, we respond to valid notices under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), the EU Digital Services Act and equivalent laws, and we close the accounts of repeat infringers. This page explains how to send a notice, how to answer one, and what happens next.

Designated agent

Send copyright notices to our designated agent, registered with the US Copyright Office:

The same address is our point of contact for content notices under the EU Digital Services Act. Please use it only for copyright and content matters; other questions go to info@samuraize.ai.

Sending a notice

If you believe material on Samuraize infringes a copyright you own or are authorised to act for, send us:

your physical or electronic signature;
identification of the copyrighted work you say is infringed (or, for several works on one site, a representative list);
the exact address (URL) of the material on samuraize.ai, and enough information for us to find it - for a summary, the link to its public page; for something in a member’s private library, whatever you know about it;
your name, postal address, telephone number and email address;
a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on their behalf.

A notice that is missing these elements may not be acted on. Please note that knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing can make you liable for damages (17 U.S.C. §512(f)).

What we do with a notice

We acknowledge receipt, and on a valid notice we remove or disable access to the material promptly - usually within two business days. We then tell the member who posted it what was removed, why, whether the decision was automated (it is not), and how to respond, and we give them a copy of your notice. We keep a record of every notice and every action taken. We tell you the outcome.

Counter-notice

If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to the same agent containing:

your physical or electronic signature;
identification of the material that was removed and where it appeared before removal;
a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification;
your name, postal address and telephone number;
a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the US federal district court for the district where your address is located - or, if you are outside the United States, of any district in which Samuraize may be found - and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice or their agent.

We forward a valid counter-notice to the original notifier. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action to restrain the alleged infringement, we restore the material between 10 and 14 business days after receiving your counter-notice.

Repeat infringers

We terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of members who are repeat infringers. Our rule: three substantiated notices within twelve months, or a single case of clearly deliberate infringement (including uploading files taken from pirate sites and shadow libraries), will normally result in termination. A notice answered by a valid counter-notice that is not followed by legal action does not count as a strike. Strikes are recorded against the account, and the member is told each time one is added.

Material you upload for your own use

Files and text that members submit for summarizing are stored at their direction, in their private library, and are not published unless the member chooses to publish the summary. Our Terms of Service require members to submit only material they own or are permitted to use, and prohibit material obtained from unauthorised sources. Notices about private material are handled under the same process as notices about published material.
